简　　介　
　　贝蒂露是小镇上的一个图书管理员，为了庆祝和丈夫埃立克的结婚周年，她在家准备了丰盛的晚餐，但作为警探的埃立克刚好在当晚有一个案子需要进行现场调查，所以没能及时回家。贝蒂露于是带着小狗外出遛弯，她在一家汽车旅馆外发现了丈夫的汽车，于是悄悄走到一个房间外，发现丈夫和同事正在一个谋杀案现场取证，贝蒂露把埃立克描述的死者特征记了下来。
　　第二天早晨，贝蒂露外出遛狗，小狗发现了凶手丢在河边的杀人武器，贝蒂露把手枪放进了自己的手提包。但是无论她怎样联系埃立克都没有办法，在路上她又碰到了永远喋喋不休的姐姐，喧嚣让贝蒂露发疯，在洗手间她掏出了藏在包里的枪，无意中朝镜子开了枪，因为有目击证人，她手中的枪又和杀死死者的枪对上了号，她很快被请到了警察局。
　　埃立克千方百计想替妻子脱罪，但贝蒂露一反常态，承认自己就是杀人凶手。在监狱里，她向同屋的女犯人倾吐了自己的郁闷——丈夫一直忽视她的存在，现在她就要引起所有人的注意。一时间，贝蒂露成了知名人物。因为死者牵扯到了一个黑帮人物，调查局的人也介入了调查。埃立克因妨碍调查，被警局撤了职。
　　调查局为了引出幕后的主使，把贝蒂露释放，黑帮头目为了追查落在死者手中的一盘磁带也千方百计追查贝蒂露。他们绑架了她的律师兼好友，她和丈夫联手找点了磁带，并救下了朋友。夫妻二人重归于好。
