简　　介　
　　1988年的伦敦，同居十年的西里尔·本德与雪莉，工作辛苦，收入很低，但乐于助人。西里尔的姐姐瓦莱丽和姐夫马丁是有钱阶层，炫耀财富，还很专横。西里尔的母亲住在儿子附近，她的邻居也是愚蠢自私的新贵。瓦莱丽不管母亲是否同意，准备了家庭宴会庆祝母亲70岁生日。马丁在宴会上企图引诱雪莉，大家不欢而散。西里尔真诚地说，他想要个人人吃饱饭、人人有房子住、有工作做的世界。第二天清晨，西里尔、雪莉和母亲在层顶平台，观赏着城市之光。　　本片以当代英国不同阶级的几位人物，抨击英国当代社会，对奔放不羁的主人公西里尔和雪莉自始至终充满深深的敬意。本片导演迈克·利的工作方法打破传统，他手头没有剧本，而是找来—批演员，让他们各自择角色，熟悉和创造“角色的小天地和整个世界”——包括衣、食、住、行、朋友、恋爱各个方面。当每个演员懂得并深入到角色之中的时候，迈克·利也构绘出整部影片的结构。本片中戴维斯和希恩扮演的一对情侣，充满现实主义色彩。本片1988年在纽约电影节上放映，1989年初在美国正式发行，被美国影评界列为当年十部最佳影片之—。
