简　　介
　　影片的剧情有两条主线：一条是寡妇海伦与初恋情人阿尔方斯的重聚，另一条是贝尔纳与阿尔及利亚姑娘慕里耶之间的离奇关系。
　　海伦尝试与阿尔方斯重温旧好，回到往昔的甜蜜时光，以驱走心中的孤寂。阿尔方斯亦试图与她重新开始，以逃避面临经济和感情危机的现有家庭，无奈岁月的冲刷使得两人难以拾起旧日的情意；而另一边，贝尔纳则日夜挂牵着在军队被折磨致死的姑娘慕里耶，一直搜集各种声像证据以求替她报仇。
　　影片的叙事风格是一个时间的重叠，将阿尔及利亚殖民之战与二次大战对比，导演雷奈在此勾绘了一个重复受苦的景象。
　　电影叙述一个女古董商的继子从阿尔及利亚战场归来，恰巧古董商的老情人也来看她。继子与老情人的战争记忆虽在不同的时代发生，却在现代交会。雷奈剪得破碎的片段，加上重叠的声音和影像，仿佛是反映各个角色内在时空不明、各自挥之不去的回忆。观众看到的只是角色的外在，得不到任何解释，画面表现的是他们在既定的时间内的日常遭遇，我们只能猜想他们的过去。
　　穆里爱事实上是一个被法国占领军行刑至死的阿尔及利亚女人，她从未在电影中现身，却是继子刻骨铭心的记忆和罪恶之源。
