简　　介
　　居住在芝加哥的裘德·斯蒂文斯（罗杰·摩尔 Roger Moore 饰）是一位极其敬业且受人尊重的心理医师。自从妻子死后，他的心思全部转移到工作上，每日的生活波澜不惊。但是这份平静突然被一场意外打破，某个下雨的日子，斯蒂文斯的一名病患在大街上被人杀害，警探麦格里维（罗德·斯泰格尔 Rod Steiger 饰）和安吉利（伊利亚特·高德 Elliott Gould 饰）随后登门调查。麦格里维之前的搭档被一名叫做齐弗伦的疯子杀害，斯蒂文斯为嫌疑犯做了成功的精神鉴定，致使麦格里维对他怀恨在心，更自顾自认为斯蒂文斯就是当街杀害病患的凶手。在此之后，神秘之人接连向斯蒂文斯痛下杀手，一向与人为善的他不知不觉陷入危机丛生的黑色漩涡之中……
