简　　介
　　史帝夫，一位任职于《纽约时报》专写深度报导的记者，但酗酒的他，每年大概只有两个月处于清醒状态，再加上外遇不断，不但被老婆踢出门，也被公司开除，生活简直一团糟。
　　幸好，他的朋友亚伦任职于奥克兰论坛报的总编，给了史帝夫一个机会，才没让他成为无业游民，因为他相信史帝夫是一个出色的记者，但史帝夫依然漫不经心、不按常理出牌的生活态度，让向来强硬作风的编辑上司鲍伯感到非常不悦，也因此史帝夫一直没受到重用。
　　直到一次不得已的情况发生：原本负责报导杀人犯法兰克即将执行死刑的记者车祸身亡，鲍伯不得已才决定让史帝夫接手这篇重要报导。
　　史帝夫的生活一团乱，根本无心这则重要事件，但从一开始的心不甘情不愿，到後来的深入追踪整个杀人事件，史帝夫逐渐发现整个过程并不似表面单纯，另有重大隐情埋藏其中。在抽丝剥茧的调查过程中，史帝夫不但开始重新审视自己的生活态度，也相信法兰克确实是无辜的。可是眼前所有的呈现的资料，都是法兰克死刑的铁证。
　　现在，史帝夫只剩下12个小时的时间，去拯救一条他相信是无辜的生命，他能在如此急迫的时间中找出真正的凶手吗？整件杀人案件背后的阴谋是什麽？牵扯入这个杀人案件的幕後人物到底有多少？

　　不知不觉，这已经是Clint Eastwood导演生涯的第21部作品，在本片中他更饰演问题多多的记者Steve。延续以往的戏路，Clint Eastwood继续塑造出一个缺陷明显但依然迷人的英雄，和以往不一样的是这次他用智慧作战，而非真枪实弹，Eastwood的表演基本上无可挑剔，但剧中每个女人都想和他上床降低了本片的可信度。
