　　杰克（科尔?豪瑟 Cole Hauser 饰）与泰勒（艾迪?斯比安 Cole Hauser 饰）两兄弟是两个酷爱探险的洞窟专家，在生物专家尼古拉（Marcel Iures 饰）和詹妮丝博士（Lena Headey 饰）的邀请下，他们携经验丰富的团队来到罗马尼亚卡尔巴阡山脉，准备对偶然在这里发现的巨大洞穴以及其中的古教堂进行勘查。
　　探险队员布里格斯（Rick Ravanello 饰）最先入水勘测，但通讯后不久便和队友失去联系。为了安全起见，杰克与泰勒决定全体出发寻找。沿途他们见到各种前所未见的古怪生物，原来在这座封闭的山洞里，竟有着一个完全独立的古生物系统。但是这些发现并未给他们带来太多惊喜，这群探险者已被困在山洞里，而来自未知生物的威胁正渐渐逼向他们……
