　　为了写一本关于连续杀人狂的书，雅痞作家布莱恩·凯瑟（大卫·杜楚尼 David Duchovny 饰）携摄影师女友卡莉（米歇尔·佛贝丝 Michelle Forbes 饰）打算以加州为目的地，重走一遍美国著名的杀手路线。途中布莱恩搭载了一对年轻的情侣厄立（布拉德·皮特 Brad Pitt 饰）和爱丽丝（朱丽叶特·刘易斯 Juliette Lewis 饰）以分担昂贵的油费，而卡莉却对这两个邋遢懒散的年轻人始终持有怀疑的态度。
