　　1971年，一间黑人中学和一间白人中学合并，学校的橄榄球队必须重新组成一支混合球队“太阳神队”。一向以白人为主的小镇，迎来这些黑人后，对当地居民造成不小的震撼。黑人教练布恩（丹泽尔·华盛顿 Denzel Washington 饰）成了该队的主教 练。而白人教练比尔（威尔·帕顿 Will Patton 饰）却成了布恩的助手。比尔从敌视到逐渐发现除橄榄球之外，两人的共通。两人都极富正义感和荣誉感，有很强的职业道德，对工作兢兢业业，一丝不苟。布恩从一开始遭到所有人的排斥到凭著自己的信念，并在比尔的的配合之下，将一群脾气恶劣、注意力不集中的孩子调教成了一支富有活力、专打胜仗的橄榄球队，成功地将这一只长败军的黑白混合美式足球队伍推至冠军宝座。自从黑白教头并肩作战后，胜利的消息便不断传回.....
