　　当地狱再也没有空间可以容纳死者的時候，它滞们只好又走回地面来……故事从七个男女偶然住進一间偏远、废弃的农庄开始，不久他们就发觉自己被困住了，因为正有数不尽的活死人朝向他们所住的农舍进攻……
　　芭芭拉与哥哥强尼前往母亲坟墓祭拜，突然被一群丧尸攻击，强尼还因此转变成丧尸。这时，害怕不已的芭芭拉驾车逃到一处民宅内，不久遇到前来避难的班，正当两人在屋内边等待救援，边寻找枪支子弹备御时，地下室的门突然被打开，原来汤姆在叔叔瑞吉变成丧尸之际，与女友朱娣罗丝以及前来避难的哈瑞古柏夫妇躲在地下室等待救援。为了防止丧尸入侵，为了等待救援，他们决定利用仅有资源将封锁门窗，面对无孔不入，成群结队的丧尸，他们该任何自保呢？
