　　克里斯（戴斯蒙·哈林顿 饰）接到一份工作，要在三个小时内赶到美国北卡罗来纳州的罗利市，用他刚刚修好的野马跑车走高速公路，这应该不成问题。不巧的是，他开车才行驶了几英里，就遇到了塞车，在高速公路上遇到了交通事故。他下车打听了一下，可能要等六个小时，路才能重新畅通。为了赶时间，克里斯决定走一条很长的弯路，绕过塞车的路段，然后再开车回到弗吉尼亚的高速公路上来。
　　减慢了车速，克里斯驶进了和高速公路交叉的土路，根据地图，它大约有20英里长。很明显，这条路少有车走，克里斯的野马车驶上去，卷起一阵尘土，相对于堵塞的高速公路来说，这还是一条捷径。
　　就在这条路的前方，杰西（艾丽莎·杜舒 饰）和她的朋友们卡莉（曼纽尔·克莉琪 饰），卡莉的男朋友斯科特（杰瑞米·西斯托 饰），埃文（凯文·席格斯 饰），埃文的女朋友弗朗幸（林蒂·布丝 饰）——正傻傻地站在路边，他们本来打算结伴去露营，却想不到半路上车子的外胎爆烈，在这偏僻的森林里，只能呆在路边束手无策。
　　克里斯开着车，在满是灰尘的路上兜圈，绿色的树林盖住头顶，在黄昏时投下恐怖的阴影，这条人烟稀少的路充满了不详的征兆。就在一个拐弯的路口，克里斯注意到路边一只死去的动物，车子突然失控，撞到了正前方的一辆SUV（越野休旅车）。
　　原来，克里斯撞上的车，就是杰西他们的。幸运的是，没有人在这次撞车中受伤，克里斯只受了点小伤，忙向杰西他们道歉，杰西拿着一条从路边取下来的带刺的纲丝网，说没关系，可能撞车是由这些神秘的钢丝网引起的。这件事看起来像是个玩笑，克里斯和杰西5个人，都感到非常疲倦了。
　　大家很快走在一起，决定找一部电话寻求援助。商量后，埃文和他的女朋友弗朗幸留在车旁边看护，其他四人则沿着马路一直走下去。渐渐的，他们感到整件事情并非一个玩笑，他们发现了一间山间小屋，里面挂满了令人毛骨悚然的武器，还有许多无比恐怖的标本：浸泡在罐子里的十几副人牙骨、血淋淋的断手等等。
　　他们断定，住在这个小屋里的“人”，跟马路上引起车祸的神秘带刺纲丝网肯定有关系。其实，他们遭遇的是恐怖的深山食人魔，这四个人并不知道埃文和弗朗幸已经死了，他俩被三个野人残忍地砍死分尸。面对来自神秘深山的威胁和攻击，剩下的四人决定不再露营。但是，危险并没有结束，食人魔势必要夺去他们的生命，他们就像猎物一样遭到了更猛烈的无情猎杀……
