◎简　　介
　　　　明治34年（1901年），国际局势风起云涌，日俄战争爆发在即。为了应对严寒地带作战的艰苦环境，日本陆军高层决定进行一次演习，并将演习地点定在了高耸险峻、严寒冰冷的八甲田山。演习队伍分成两支，分别由弘前第31连队的德岛大尉（高倉健 饰）和青森第5连队的神田大尉（北大路欣也 饰）领导。德岛具有丰富的雪原行军经验，他和神田仔细研究了行军路线，并相约在目的地会合。然而神田的上司山田少佐（三國連太郎 饰）一门心思击败友军，不仅擅自扩编行军人数，还粗暴地打乱既定的计划。他的颟顸将第5连队引向了死亡之途…… 本片根据新田次郎的小说《八甲田山死の彷徨》改编。
