　　　　洛杉矶警察将正在打劫银行的乔（Bruce Willis 饰）与泰瑞（Billy Bob Thornton 饰）团团包围，断无脱身机会之时，两人昔日的经历一幕幕回放出现：崇尚行动的乔与喋喋不休的泰瑞服刑时临时起意越狱居然获得成功，两人为生计找来乔伊表弟哈维打算抢劫银行，他们打劫俄勒冈银行的奇特手法经媒体渲染后一时竟成为著名“过夜劫匪”，三人得手后分道扬镳。不久，被丈夫冷落而出走的红发女郎凯特（Cate Blanchett 饰）结识泰瑞，不知不觉融入乔一伙并与乔陷入热恋，泰瑞对凯特也颇有好感，经过笨拙的努力终于拉近了两人的距离。乔与泰瑞面临摊牌，但凯特表示他们两人在一起才是自己所爱，惬意的时光总嫌短暂，在不断打劫银行的行动中，乔和泰瑞走到了犯罪生涯的终点…… 本片根据真实故事改编，获2002年佛罗里达影评人协会奖最佳男主角、女配角奖。
