简　　介  
　　哈密顿将军（C·奥布雷·史密斯 C. Aubrey Smith 饰）的严苛和无情在军队中人尽皆知，麦克格雷上校（加里·库柏 Gary Cooper 饰）深受其苦，希望他能够有所改变。将军的儿子史东（理查德·克洛维尔 Richard Cromwell 饰）的到来让麦克格雷上校看到了一丝希望，然而，史东却是狂妄自大的纨绔子弟，一次意外中，他落入了敌军的手中。哈密顿将军决定忍痛放弃拯救儿子的机会，但和史东关系十分要好的麦克格雷上校却竭力反对，眼看着救援的最佳时机即将过去，一直无法说服哈密顿将军的麦克格雷上校决定同好友福斯特（法兰奇·汤恩 Franchot Tone 饰）一同“深入虎穴”，会有怎样惊险和刺激的经历等待着他们呢？
