　　六岁那年，基特（亨利·戈尔丁 饰）随着父母逃难到英国，躲避故乡战后的动荡。三十年后，他回到胡志明市，寻找适合撒下父母骨灰的地方。然而家乡已非家乡，遥远的儿时记忆面对迥异的人事景物，却召唤不出任何乡愁，越南语生疏的他如西方游客，迷失于喧嚣车阵。 透过交友软体，他认识了父亲曾参与越战的美国人路易斯（帕克·索耶 饰），尽管上一代在战争中立场相左，两人仍激起爱情火花。面对继承而来的历史创伤，失根漂浮的灵魂，如何在陌生土地找到自身归属？
