　　街头小混混弗兰克林因倒卖活动被捕，在运送犯人的车上，不自觉地卷入一场越狱阴谋。原来越狱的组织者是维拉德，他早就已经在谋划这次行动，碰巧赶上的弗兰克林成了他手里的一张牌。但在逃跑途中，弗兰克林机灵地离队了。自以为得计的他发现这下更糟，不但警察逮他，连维拉德也因为他知道得太多而追杀他。走投无路的情况下，他只好求助于新闻记者詹姆斯.拉塞尔。一心想着因报道独家新闻而一夜成名的詹姆斯岂能放过这难得的机会，可是事件展开之后他才发现，出名是好事，但代价可不低。
