　　当大卫·威尔逊年轻的妻子罹患癌症时，他只剩下一个单身的工作爸爸，独自负责照顾六年级患有自闭症的儿子。帕特里克喜欢被称为“Po”，他是一个很有天赋但很有挑战的孩子，他和母亲很亲近，无法表达自己的失落感。当父亲和儿子挣扎着应付母亲去世后的生活时，他们各自开始遁入自己的世界。大卫找到了一份压力很大的工作，他差点失去了这份工作，而阿宝离开了学校，在学校里他受到了欺凌，进入了他的魔幻世界——有色人种之地。在那里，他只是一个典型的无忧无虑的男孩，有很多其他世俗的伙伴。父亲和儿子之间日益增长的鸿沟以及一个特殊需求的单亲父母面临的挑战可能永远分离大卫和珀。基于一个真实的故事，以最真实的方式对悲痛的父子之间的爱情进行测试。
