简　　介  
　　在白宫完成两个任期的工作后，前美国总统门罗·寇尔（金·哈克曼 饰）搬到了新西兰海岸的一个小镇，他想在那里撰写自己的回忆录，享受退休后的休闲日子。这个小镇其实就是他的家乡，缅因州的莫斯普特（Mooseport），原本打算安享晚年的前总统门罗，适逢莫斯普特举行市长选举，被街坊邻居们推选为候选人，极力怂恿他担任他们的新市长。
　　也许是从政生涯造就的好大喜功的心理，也许是不能接受失去众人焦点的地位，也许真想为街坊市民们做点实事，门罗答应了邻居们，投入到了市长的竞选中。不想，当地一个五金店的老板汉迪·哈里逊（雷·罗曼诺 饰），却不买他的帐，公然反对他竞选。
　　已经征服过整过美国的前总统门罗，怎能忍受在一个无名小镇上翻船？所以，他开始利用政治生涯学来的各种手段，与反对他的人开始了争夺。不想，他这样做反而打乱了当地人们的生活，他本该清闲的退休生活，竟也成为了他一生中最好争吵的日子……
