　　布坎曾经是个受同侪排挤的员警，做事不像别的员警一样循规蹈矩。于是布坎辞职做了赏金猎人，为攒钱开一家自己的私人侦探社而奋斗。这个目标十分遥远，因为布坎每天捉来捉去，捉的都是些不值钱的小贼。
有一天他在追捕异常滑溜的小贼雷吉，雷吉躲进了一辆汽车的后备箱，车子的主人却是一帮珠宝大盗，他们刚刚杀人越货，抢来一批价值两千万的钻石，却发现这些钻石是假的。
雷吉躲开大盗们逃回家，他的女朋友告诉他他们买的彩票中了六千万大奖。可是，雷吉的彩票却跟钱包一起落在了强盗们手里。幸好，这时布坎上门来抓人，雷吉理直气壮地要雇用布坎去抢回彩票。布坎考虑一番之后，同意了。不过他心里另有算盘：如果雷吉的话是假的，他就用雷吉作诱饵抓住强盗们换取奖金。
