简　　介　
　　影片根据小说改编。描写英国现代姑娘安妮出于对姨祖母奥莉维亚在印度生活往事的好奇，到印度进行实地寻访的经历，把两个不同时代各自独立成章而相互关关联的故事交织在一起。影片以交替的闪回镜头，分别叙述了奥莉维亚在20世纪20年代在殖民地印度的经历，成为印度王子的情妇的故事；安妮踏看姨祖母的足迹来到印度后，也和—位英俊的印度人英德产生感情。
