　　长大后，为了谋求生计，两姐妹一起来到了当地的一户富裕人家做女佣，生活工作虽然辛苦，但只要两人能够在一起，日子过得也算是安稳平静。随着时间的推移，长久以来的寂寞生活令克里斯蒂安和莱尔的心中充满了空虚与激情，渐渐的，她们开始学会在彼此的身上寻找情感慰藉。一次工作中，莱尔无意里烫坏了女主人丹泽（朱丽·沃特斯 Julie Walters 饰）的婚纱，丹泽大发雷霆，就此点燃了悲剧的导火索。
